Domestic Violence Education and
Volunteer Training
The Fall
2009 training will take place
Monday, October 12th through Saturday, October 31st. Training
will take place each Monday and Thursday evening, from 5:00 to 9:15
p.m. and each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

BABES Volunteer
BABES,
Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies, is a program sponsored
by Dove, Inc., which bring worthwhile life skill lessons to children
in grades K-3rd, in Macon and DeWitt county schools.
This volunteer commitment is usually an hour a week for six
weeks and that covers two classrooms. The presentations are made
in pairs. Bring a friend who can be your partner or be teamed
with a person during the training.

DeWitt County RSVP Community Involvement
Opportunities
The
Genealogical Society is looking for volunteers to do typing and
data entry projects. Hours and days are flexible. Share your
typing and data entry talents and be comfortable in the air
conditioning.
Big
Brothers Big Sisters is currently looking for volunteers for two
different opportunities B
Board Member and/or a BIG to a little. Do you have desire to
see a program succeed and wish there was someway you could
help? Board members are needed to guide the program here in
DeWitt County. Meetings are currently held on the second
Tuesday in the evening at the Warner Library. BIGS are
volunteers who mentor littles. They make a difference. Five
littles are seeking a BIG. Volunteer time is flexible.

Faith in Action of DeWitt County
Volunteer Activities
The
mission of Faith in Action of DeWitt County is to provide
emotional and physical support to seniors and those with
long-term illnesses so they can maintain their independence,
dignity and quality of life.

Volunteers of all ages are
needed for the following:

Make
phone calls, checking in on someone or to chat

Provide transportation for appointments / errands
-
Helping sort & pack to move to smaller home
-
Building ramps, making sure your neighbor is not
homebound
-
Re-building an existing ramp that no longer meets the needs
of care receiver

Friendly visiting
-
Line
dancing instructor
-
Yard
and flower bed cleanup and ongoing care

Macon County RSVP Community Involvement
Opportunities
Meals On
Wheels ● Pick up hot, nutritious meals at DMH and deliver them
to the Oxford House and Spring Creek. A cart is available for
your convenience. Just put them on the table in the dining room
for the residents to pick up. Route takes about one half hour.
If you are available to help once or twice a month call

Money
Management Program ● Assist seniors with organizing bills,
writing checks, and monitoring their budget. Takes only 10-15
hours per month. This worthwhile activity will enable them to
prolong an independent way of life in their own home with a
minimum of intervention. Orientation and training provided. Call

McKinley
Court Gift Shop ● Share a smile with the residents and greet
customers. Volunteers needed in the afternoons noon to 3:00
p.m.. Call 428.6616.
St.
Mary's Hospital ● Have fun volunteering! Here is an opportunity
to share your people skills and you know how appreciated that is
when you or a loved one is in the hospital. Read stories to the
children, share extra blankets, greet visitors, answer phones
and be a friend to someone. Call Shelli at 464.2520.
