Seeking Volunteers for the Senior Companion Program

April 4, 2021

The Dove Senior Companion Program offers men and women age 55 and up who meet income eligibility requirements the opportunity to assist seniors in their homes. The program’s mission is to help homebound seniors remain living independently and improve the quality of life for seniors and caregivers.

Senior Companion Volunteers provide various services that may include transportation for grocery shopping or doctor’s appointments, light meal preparation, socialization, or respite for families. Senior Companions volunteer 15 to 20 hours per week and receive on-going in-services to provide up-to-date training in working with isolated seniors.   Volunteers are eligible for a nonreportable hourly stipend, and supporting services volunteers need to keep active and stay engaged in their community.

The SCP compensation is tax-free and, as such, cannot be counted as income. The stipend will not affect any income-based benefits the volunteer may receive. The program has limited volunteer slots available.

For more information on becoming a Senior Companion Volunteer, please contact Coordinator Kathy Walters at 217.428.6616.  Dove welcomes opportunities to share about SCP and volunteer opportunities with your service group or church with responsible pandemic guidelines. Call Kathy to set up your presentation.
